In 1928, the Campo wheat mill was established in the heart of the countryside around Erice. This is the story of a business which was created to take advantage of the area's resources, and the story of a desire to pass on from father to son the skills required to ground Sicilian durum wheat grown in the surrounding fields.
Everything began with the ambitions of the company's founder, Antonio Campo, to best utilise the resources available in order to create a business capable of milling Sicilian grain to produce unique products: flour and semolina from the best of the area's harvests.
The Campo wheat mill has always followed family traditions and fully guarantees the family management of their business. The company almost a century old, has always been handed down within the family in order to best preserve the continuity of traditional skills. he initiatives undertaken and the determination shown by the owners over the years have been the foundation for the transformation which has characterised the development of the company. These developments also reflect changes in the milling industry to today.
It was this continual desire to develop which led the founder of another of the company's properties, Dorotea Campo, to establish a business which would unite the milling activities with local gastronomic traditions to rediscover the antique culinary arts of Erice and Trapani: the Pastificio Artigianale Campo, for the artisanal production of pasta. By producing pasta typical of the Ericino area, the Pastificio Artigianale Campo succeeds in enhancing products such as the durum semolina produced at the Molino Campo, the wheat mills.
